Of course, a small number of men, ashamed to speak about their STDs, dare not seek treatment at a proper hospital, resorting to haphazard medication; or ignoring the problem and continuing to indulge in excessive sexual activity, eventually worsening the disease and affecting the function of their sexual organs, thus impacting their sexual ability and leading to organic erectile dysfunction. However, this is an isolated phenomenon. STDs do not necessarily cause erectile dysfunction. It is hoped that men will understand this correctly and avoid unnecessary psychological burden.

Beware of Drug-Induced Sexual Dysfunction

Men who appear strong are actually quite vulnerable. In modern life, factors everywhere can potentially affect male sexual function. Many medications we encounter in daily life, while exerting their therapeutic effects, may also impact male sexual function. In severe cases, this can lead to male sexual dysfunction. Below are some common medications and their effects on male sexual function.

Long-term, high-dose use of androgens such as methyltestosterone and testosterone propionate can cause testicular atrophy and reduced sperm production; long-term use of estrogens such as estradiol and ethinylestradiol can lead to decreased or absent libido, difficulty ejaculating, or erectile dysfunction.

Long-term, high-dose use of sedatives such as phenobarbital and sedatives can lead to erectile dysfunction; long-term use of sleeping pills such as diazepam, nitrazepam, and chlordiazepoxide can also cause decreased libido and erectile dysfunction.

Long-term use of diuretics such as spironolactone, hydrochlorothiazide, and furosemide can cause decreased libido, sexual dysfunction, and erectile dysfunction.

Long-term use of anti-inflammatory drugs such as phenylbutazone and phenacetin can cause testicular atrophy and infertility.

Long-term use of cimetidine can lead to impotence due to gonadal dysfunction. Long-term use of atropine and scopolamine can also cause impotence.

Long-term use of drugs such as reserpine, methyldopa, and clonidine can cause decreased libido, difficulty ejaculating, and impotence.

Long-term use of digitalis, digoxin, and propranolol can also cause decreased sexual function or impotence.

Medications can treat illness, but they can also cause illness. Men taking the above-mentioned medications must remember their side effects and try to avoid these situations.
