How Much Sexual Activity Is Considered Too Much?

Many men often ask: Under normal circumstances, what frequency of sexual activity is considered normal? Is my frequency too high or too low?

Actually, there's no single, standard answer to this question. The frequency of sexual activity is influenced by subjective factors such as individual physical condition and the degree of enjoyment of sex, as well as objective factors such as work and life. There are often significant differences between individuals, making it impossible to mechanically dictate a frequency. However, this doesn't mean there are no patterns. Generally speaking, newlywed couples should have sex 3-4 times a week or more; young adults should have sex 2-3 times a week; couples aged 40-49 should have sex 5-10 times a month; couples aged 50-59 should have sex 3-6 times a month; couples aged 60-69 should have sex 2-4 times a month; couples aged 70-79 should have sex 1-2 times a month; and those over 80 should have sex once a month or 3 times every two months.

This is just a general guideline, and men shouldn't rigidly adhere to it. However, if you experience any of the following after sexual activity, you should be careful, as your sexual activity may be too frequent. ◎The day after sexual activity, you may experience lethargy, lower back and knee pain, fatigue, weakness, night sweats, decreased appetite, and insomnia with vivid dreams.

After sexual activity, work and study efficiency may significantly decrease. Concentration may be poor, memory may be impaired, and mistakes may be more frequent.

For a period after sexual activity, physical fitness may noticeably decline, resistance to disease may decrease, making you more susceptible to illness and experiencing reduced energy.

Sexual activity is a spice of a good life, but even the best spice, if overdone, will ruin the whole dish. Therefore, it is essential to arrange the frequency of sexual activity reasonably according to your own situation; neither excessive indulgence nor abstinence is advisable. Only in this way can sexual activity become a memorable and exquisite feast in life.

Precautions for Sexual Activity

Do not engage in sexual activity while ill. Men suffering from certain serious organic diseases should not force themselves to have sex; those with tuberculosis (which is infectious) should also avoid sexual intercourse; and those with sexually transmitted diseases should absolutely not engage in sexual activity. Having sex while ill not only harms oneself but also endangers one's partner and should be avoided.

Maintain good hygiene. Having sex in a dirty, messy environment or with unhygienic genitals can affect the mental state of both partners and introduce bacteria and pathogens into the other's body, harming their health. Conversely, a clean, pleasant environment and washing the genitals before intercourse are beneficial to both partners' health and contribute to a harmonious and fulfilling sex life.

Avoid sex after drinking alcohol. Drinking alcohol, especially large amounts of strong liquor, can lead to erectile dysfunction or premature ejaculation in men, hindering harmonious sexual relations; moreover, conception after drinking can endanger the fetus.

Avoid sex immediately after bathing. Having sex immediately after bathing can disrupt blood circulation and affect health.

Avoid sex after childbirth. Resuming sexual activity too early after childbirth can easily cause poor uterine involution and uterine bleeding, posing a significant threat to a woman's health.

Avoid early morning sex. "Having sex before dawn" refers to engaging in sexual activity before daybreak. This prevents both partners from getting rest, leading to an imbalance in the body's physiological functions and a significant decrease in immunity. It can also negatively impact work and study efficiency due to excessive fatigue.

Avoid forcing sexual activity when in a bad mood. Some couples force themselves to have sex when one partner is in a bad mood, which not only fails to achieve harmony but also creates resentment in the partner. Repeated occurrences can lead to female frigidity or male impotence.
