Male Symbolic Esteem and Anxiety: Penis Size, Intimidation Function, and Mental Health

For men, "bigger is better," so they are very particular about the size and length of their genitals-the penis. When using the toilet, men often peek at the genitals of the people next to them; when soaking in hot springs or saunas and being naked, men will also casually observe other people's penises. All of this is about comparing the size of other people's penises with their own.

Men feel reassured if they are not inferior to others after comparing themselves to others, and feel confident if theirs is larger. However, they immediately feel dejected if theirs is smaller than others. This is a genuine feeling that men cannot fake. Comparing genitals with others and experiencing joy or sorrow as a result is something women would never do. Women cannot understand this kind of male psychology and might even find men ridiculous.

However, despite what may seem ridiculous, men are actually quite sensitive about the size of their penis. Why is that? Because for human males, the penis, like a lion's mane or a gorilla's silver back, serves a function of intimidation and boasting, and is one of the most important tools for repelling enemies and defeating other males. It is said that men have beards to make their faces look scary, in order to frighten their opponents.

As I mentioned earlier, men with thick beards are said to have "high levels of male hormones and abundant energy." However, in reality, many men who deliberately grow long beards are actually quite cowardly. If you consider that beards exist to intimidate and boast, it's easy to understand why the more cowardly a man is, the more likely he is to want one. The same applies to bald heads; the purpose is to frighten opponents. Ancient Japanese samurai shaved the front and middle sections of their heads, creating a crescent-shaped "chonmage" hairstyle, supposedly for the same reason.

A man's genitals once served the same function as a beard and pubic hair. The average length of an adult male's penis is 14-16 centimeters, which is a proudly large size among male primates. For example, a gorilla weighing up to 200 kilograms has a penis that is only about the length of a human little finger. Considering that gorillas can reproduce successfully, this size of reproductive organ is sufficient for their needs.

However, why do human men, who are shorter than gorillas, possess genitals several times larger than gorillas? This is because the human penis has completely evolved into an organ for intimidation and boasting. Among the indigenous peoples of Southeast Asia, some tribes have the custom of men wearing penile sheaths. They make sheaths from animal horns or similar materials, suspend them with thread, or secure them with red cloth.

The larger the penis sheath, the greater the man's power, and the better the effect of intimidation and boasting. The higher a person's status in a tribe, the larger their penis sheath. For men, penis size indeed holds significant meaning. In this day and age, the only places left to flaunt masculinity are public toilets, saunas, and public bathhouses, where men still use their genitals to intimidate each other. "The bigger the penis, the stronger the man."

It's a man's instinct to think this way. So when he sees someone with a smaller penis than his own, he can't help but feel smug. And if he finds out that others think he has a larger penis, even if he doesn't show it, he'll secretly feel proud. So, dear female readers, even if you really think that way, please, please, please never say something like, "Your penis is so small." Just being told it's "small" will immediately make a man lose his confidence.

If a woman says this, it's even more damaging. Saying things like, "Compared to my ex-boyfriend, yours..." is absolutely unacceptable. Being compared to other men and being labeled "small" is a devastating blow to a man, one he may never recover from. If your man seems insecure and anxious about his manhood, just give him a sweet smile and say, "Yours is amazing." Just that one sentence will boost his confidence. That's the kind of creature men are.
